⏵ March State of the Game and Arrivals ⏴

Hello and welcome to Etraya!

We were very excited to see all the players interested in our new game when we put up our interest check, and are glad to have you guys join us! Thank you for applying to join Etraya and giving our game a chance. At this point, we have 35 Characters who have applied in for our first round. Given that applications do not close until 3PM PST today, there is still time to get in any last-minute applications!

As a heads up, we have updated our FAQ to reflect that mod posts, including mission posts and OOC intros, will be posted at or before 3PM PST on the day they are meant to go up. We don't want to give ourselves a strict time, given we appreciate having the flexibility to make last-minute changes as needed to suit our player base, but do promise we will get them up by 3PM PST.

We'll be updating our LOCATIONS page over the next week with additional places based on those who applied and were accepted; if there's any location you would like to see in particular, please feel free to use the provided form so we can get it added! Additionally, please check out our CALENDAR noting the dates of the upcoming mission and Activity Check due dates. For new characters, activity is simply responding to the ACTIVITY CHECK page using the formatting provided. Those who have not completed this by the day AC closes will be removed from the game.

⏵ OOC INTRO ⏴

Please use the below form to introduce yourselves (or don't, we're not cops, introduce yourself how you want) and let us know of any upcoming plans you're looking forward to in game! We also have a mod comment HERE that you can use to ask us mods anything about our upcoming plans, add suggestions, or anything of the like.

PLAYER: Beth, she/they (no marked preference)
CONTACT: [plurk.com profile] terriblepurpose (feel free to add me!)
ABOUT YOU: I love possums. One of the best marsupials out there. Enjoy how their mouths get so big. In terms of fandom, I dabble in most superhero canons, had a deep Batman comics phase, enjoy science fiction generally, and the recent release of the latest instalment in the Dune movie adaptation living up to my childhood dreams rewired parts of my brain. My pace varies but I like boomeranging when things line up that way, and I try to match length of tags in threads. A fun fact about me is that I'm very fond of spreadsheets for real.

CHARACTER: Francis 'Trickster' Krouse, Worm
CHARACTER INFO: Krouse will start off not being too invested in the fate of the world he was brought from, because it's not the world he considers actually his own. When he figures out it's not clear which world they're representing, he'll be reconsidering that position. For now, his major motivation will be attempting to figure out how to use this new setting to his advantage - he has some personal goals in mind.

He's also lying extensively about himself to start off with. His current cover story is that he was in prison for stealing a car, which is technically one of the crimes he did commit, but not actually the reason he ended up there. In reality, Krouse was a supervillain mercenary whose career ended in spectacular and tragic fashion. He's not looking to pick that life back up here, and would prefer to keep a low profile and get along, but there's probably going to be some friction when it comes to how he tends to approach problem solving with a certain degree of 'practical ruthlessness'.

CR NOTES: I'm interested in building on the positive starts he's made with people on the TDM and playing out the gradual reveal of what's actually going on with him. Krouse is dealing with the aftermath of some significant personal losses, so he'll be leery of getting too attached to anyone new, but he's lonely enough that it'll be hard for him to avoid it. He's often annoying on purpose, so I'm also open to exploring more friction-based relationships with him - Krouse is probably a good petty sniping partner.

PLOTS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN: To start off with, I'm most interested in getting Krouse to a point where he buys into the game's world saving premise fully. Events that involve dealing with the ramifications of what's going on here will probably be helpful for that, as will building his attachments to other people who do care about what happens to the worlds they come from. Multiverses are also a significant part of his canon and his backstory specifically, so I'm keen on exploring things related to that.

OTHER: Krouse as a possum:

Does he introduce himself as Trickster? Asking for a friend.
equivo: (there ain't nothing that can save me)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-25 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He's keeping that under wraps to start with, but oh my god, that's a funny overlap. Krouse will be scandalized to learn the Other Trickster is some kind of circus clown, unlike his much more dignified supervillain-sona: a stage magician/circus ringleader, thank you.

At least James Jesse had panache. Axel Walker is just a baby-killing punk; nobody wants to be compared to him.

Krouse like well that's at least one thing I never did. Don't ask about the other stuff he did do, though. It's not important.

I think these two meeting could be pretty interesting because Krouse shares some things in common with Tim, like being kind of a huge nerd, but what he's done with his life is, you know, a pretty different trajectory.

[personal profile] mostdangerousbird 2024-03-26 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
He’s going to ask at some point. But at the beginning, not much. Tim avoids information quid pro quos. Surface level nerd bonding is definitely welcome.

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
Gosh I can't imagine why Tim would want to avoid that kind of conversation (said with immense affection for him as a character).

How's Tim feel about the arcade games down in the apartment building rec room?

[personal profile] mostdangerousbird 2024-03-26 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
As with many things, I blame Bruce Wayne. Tim won’t blame anyone, he’ll just try to lean hard into “I am a nondescript dork” until someone ruins it for him.

I’m torn between him being like ooooh spare parts and trying to use them to hack into something and actually playing them, because he DOES like arcade games.
equivo: (there ain't nothing that can save me)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
When in doubt, it's always Bruce's fault. (Sorry, Bruce.) I enjoy that Tim is also going incognito, I really like interactions where all characters involved are doing a bit of some kind.

Krouse would be affronted at the suggestion of dismantling classic retro arcade games and then get annoyed with himself for being affronted, because that's stupid, if Tim can make something useful out of them he should do it...but...the games...maybe they should at least get some high scores in first? You know, for honing hand eye coordination.

[personal profile] mostdangerousbird 2024-03-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's definitely always Bruce's fault (maybe not the Bruce that's here though). Tim would only actively blame Bruce if they were on the outs, though - so like 50% of the time.

I mean. It would be a shame to not... try them ... for establishing multiversal differences...
equivo: (good kid just dying to be fucked up)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-27 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah this Bruce is just walking into the fire the other Bruce set holding a pizza and wearing a bewildered expression, one assumes.

Krouse likes the way Tim thinks. This is research and so on. Gotta pin down the divergences.

Hi! I am completely canonblind to Worm, but based on vibes and vibes alone (okay not entirely alone, i also greatly enjoyed seeing you around the TDM) I'd be super interested in tossing Krouse and Clarke together at some point. Disconnect about which world they're saving? Perfect. Leery but drawn to making interpersonal connections? Dope. Practical ruthlessness? I love it.
equivo: (there ain't nothing that can save me)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also canonblind to Clarke here but when I saw her grimly pilfering hospital supplies I was super intrigued, I just psyched myself out about tagging in so this is great to hear! Yes, I'd love to toss them together, I get the sense they'll either cooperate swimmingly or Clarke will want to punt him into the temperature wrecking river. Or both! That's an effect he tends to have on people.

Oh my goodness, same hat! Got real deep in the TDM, even made a list of all the people I wanted to tag, then chickened out like "oh, they've got too many tag ins, don't wanna overwhelm". BUT, still hyped and honestly so excited you're also hype!

And yes, 100% to your deduction of how this could go! And cannot wait to see how it actually unfolds when we get to threading 👀

(i'll also toss a quick copy-paste canon recap here for you: 100 years after earth was destroyed by nuclear weapons, a couple thousand people are living on a failing space ship. to conserve oxygen they send 100 juvenile delinquents down to earth to see if it's habitable. it's okay, it's a science experiment (it's also a little bit of an execution...) only guess what! not all humanity died off 100 years ago!! and the survivors are Not Thrilled about the new sky people dropping in. clarke becomes one of the defacto leaders of this rag tag teenage army, nothing goes to plan EVER, and she earns the super swanky nickname Commander Of Death because she does a few war crimes in the name of protecting her people. it's a... fun show.)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. Yeah I think they might have a few things they could talk about l m a o.

Brief Worm recap as it relates to Krouse: he was a member of a high school e-sports team that got isekai'd into a parallel Earth full of superpowers, he made a lot of Big Choices in the immediate aftermath to try to save his team captain/girlfriend + keep the rest of the team alive and not in Interdimensional Intruder detention, those choices all had hideous consequences (like giving them all superpowers themselves), and he ended up the new team leader by virtue of being the one most willing to make the hard calls in the process of trying to get them home. All of his choices kept having new, even worse hideous consequences, and eventually it ended incredibly badly for everyone involved.

Super fun to be a teenager committing acts of terrible violence as the weight of responsibility and failure slowly crushes you, am I right. What a fun thing to be potentially able to bond over.

"All of his choices kept having new, even worse hideous consequences, and eventually it ended incredibly badly for everyone involved." oh wow, so they really out here with the same character arc, just different fonts

I love it, and thus my excitement to thread together increases ten-fold. Like, I coulda written that last little bit myself!! And what kind of bonding will that be? Could range from "you ever look into a mirror and see your own rage projected back at you" (positive) or "you ever look into a mirror and see your own rage projected back at you..." (negative)
equivo: (i've been pissing off all the neighbours)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Funnily enough Krouse wouldn't describe himself as a particularly angry person but that's only because he subliminates it into scary ruthless focus instead of more overt lashing out, which means all the violence he gets involved in is actually way more fine if you think about it because he's 100% in control of what he's doing. That's definitely not 'still just as bad'.

He's coming into the game even more angry in a sort of reckless self-destructive way so long story short, yes. Mirroring. And quite possibly of both varieties!

I was hype to see Krouse on the tdm, I had no idea people are playing from Worm and it's kinda awesome. I'm definitely interested in throwing Natsuno at him and see how it goes.
equivo: (there ain't nothing that can save me)

[personal profile] equivo 2024-03-26 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad someone else knows the canon so you can back me up when I talk about some of the unbelievable stuff that happens in it!

The next time Natsuno and Krouse run into each other Teacher's mental conditioning (courtesy of Krouse's Birdcage stint) will be mostly worn off, so he's going to be much more on form to most of canon: kind of insufferable.

I look forward to it!
