⏵ June State of the Game and Arrivals ⏴ Hello, Etrayans! We hope you enjoyed your time at Summer Camp! Or if your character had the fun of going off to Solmara, we hope they enjoyed fighting beasts, and convincing Borealis to come out of hiding! For this application round, we have opted to keep them open an additional week. We announced this over plurk, but realize not everyone checks there! Their new closure date will be July 4th. This will not impact our log or posting schedule at all. In addition, as of today, June 27th, the X-Men cast is no longer under cap. We've got our arrival mingle going up later today to welcome new characters! Please keep an eye out for it. On July 11th, our mission announcement and plotting post will be going up. We do want to note that this next mission will be off world, and we intend for its' duration to be four weeks. As always, we strive to be flexible and build our missions up to suit our player base/characters currently in game, so if we need to slow it down some or put up any additional logs mid-mission, we may check in with our players during to get a feel on if that would help any. Our last feedback post went up on June 19th with our next coming up on September 18th - but we welcome feedback throughout the year regardless of if there's a specific post asking for it! You are always welcome to comment to our older feedback posts with any concerns, comments, or ideas of what we can do to improve the game. We can't promise to bring everything into play, but we do listen to the ideas that have been brought our way and have implemented many player suggestions in the past. CHARACTER: Jonathan Crane | The Dark Knight Trilogy

CHARACTER INFO: Crane is a polite and reserved intellectual whose sadistic nature hides behind a civil exterior. His authority as chief of psychiatry allowed him to terrify his patients and hide his involvement in crime. His expert testimony shielded gangsters from prison and was well regarded in legal circles. He is a brilliant scientist who loves the thrill of research. He just happens to get his kicks by experimenting on people without their consent.

He has a severe inferiority complex and indulges in mental manipulation but will be presenting as a polite and amicable therapist. But because he is who he is, please check his permissions and contact me if you have questions.

PLOTS YOU'RE INTERESTED IN: The biggest theme I plan on exploring is what Crane will do removed from Gotham. Will he indulge in crime and manipulation or be functional in society? Are there people who can keep him on the straight and narrow? I want to explore who he is beneath the mask. Crane is the mask he wears, Scarecrow is the man behind it. I would love to explore the psychology of that.

Crane has been in Etraya for two months. He keeps a low profile but is secretly manufacturing shimmer and running a criminal enterprise with Silco. They plan to produce shimmer and market it to those without powers who need assistance on missions. Crane oversees research and development. Silco manages resources and marketing. This partnership will push his academic curiosity down a dangerous path: shimmer combined with fear toxin. Everything will be fine.

We so need to plot interaction for these two. Esp with how little of 'Barbara Gordon' there is in Nolanverse itself, and like a few other canons give us some room to play with the dichotomy of her knowing who he is, just based on his name, but his really only, I think, knowing she's the Commissioner's daughter?

BUT ALSO. Oracle is 100% hacking into your Asylum cameras (/getting cameras in there if there aren't any just to turn on) & Crane, coming into easy scrutiny since she's also stalking every single thing she can of what the Zaunites are doing in the fallout from Damian's choices last month.


Please give me nonsense, and make it complicated with who you all are outside of Gotham. Especially because it makes me think of this:

OKAY SO I double checked and she was young during The Dark Knight. 6-8ish going by the limited footage? He might have an inkling the name is connected to her father but he's far enough removed from Gorden that it doesn't have to be a thing if we want to keep him in the dark. She's something he'd have categorised but she's not that important at the same time becaue Jim isn't really in his life until he gets caught and interrogated?

Also she can hack anything she likes because Crane and Silco aren't doing their illegal business there. Ever heard of misdirection, Barbara? Can't a man cook paracetamol in peace? Tl;dr Silco is offering to use his own place as a base to preserve Crane's cover.

Also the fact she doesn't know this version of Crane means she knows nothing about his background? That's something she might want to dig into? Cause I have his headcanon in his journal's app page and yeeeeah there's some stuff there. But it might not come out unless he talks [ha ha no] or there's an event.

Oooooh. I needa go read your backgroundy things! It's now on the list. Because I do think it might be something interesting to play with. While Babs will never be okay with "Silco + Crane are making drugs/Crane wants to play with Shimmer + Fear Toxin," she is one of the Bats that does (if hesitatingly) truly believe in people's ability to make different choices and change who they choose to be/how they act toward others. That rehabilitation is truly possible.

I super do not mind Crane remembering her as a kid. Even if it's just vaguely, or if it's not at all, if you think it wouldn't have come up for Crane ever.

(She's gotten used to things being super weird where it comes to her in other worlds. In Titans!Dick's world she was never Batgirl, but a theif who later became Comissioner, and created an "Oracle" full-on AI computer. Baby!Bat doesn't really know her, but she's mentioned in a script scene. Sr!Bat knows her as a previous !Batgirl, current!Commissioner, and never Oracle. WFA!Jason knows her as previous!Batgirl, current!Oracle, but also one who never got the ability to walk again.

So, I'm like 100% down for whatever you think might be most fun for Crane & you. I don't mind it constantly being different or being her only as a kid or even not knowing her at all. I'm down to be easy-peasy with all the Crossing-Media-BatCanon people.)

I'm also totally down for mission hijinks and discoveries NO ONE EVER WANTED.
But also might lead to other something something somethings.

I'll keep spoilers minimal so hopefully we don't have to put everything under a tag. But this guy deserves everything to go well.

Would he need to learn about the concept/what therapy does first, you think? Like would he seek Crane out once he has the information to hand?

I think he would have an idea of what it is/does, but I don't think he'd seek Crane out for it, simply because I don't think he has much experience with anyone practicing therapy and he seems to me to be a character that very much internalizes his problems and just Doesn't Talk About them that much (as with how he doesn't really talk to anyone about Sophie in canon).

Which is a long way of saying he might need an invitation, but I think he'd take Crane up on it! They may need to develop more of a rapport first though.

Jason's been alerted about Silco and Scarecrow's team-up. Plus, he and Vander have talked about cooperating so that the new nightmare team doesn't cause shit. I look forward to whatever mess this becomes.

Meanwhile, Kirk is vaguely aware of Shimmer but has no idea about Silco. Given Kirk's biochemistry specialty, I wonder if we can work something with that.

I am totally looking forward to it! So glad Jill came to me with the idea of Silco and Crane teaming up because it's so hilariously awful. And it's letting me dig into THAT side of Crane which is what I've wanted to start doing.

Jason seems like the sort who could be noticed sneaking around Arkham? I'm wanting to do a TL for Arkham shenanigans soon so he seems like he'd be a good fit?

Kirk I think we can see what happens as we go. Crane does get fully into his work but he's capable of masking. So I feel like something along friendly lines could be a good start. Crane's just honestly bored and needs mental stimulation which is one reason why he's doing it. The other reason, at the core, is that he is projecting his own fear. So yes. Start on good lines? Cause I think Kirk can see there's something there to keep alive if that makes sense?

Excuse the wrong journal (because lol) but yes! Crane can keep her supplied with the finest drugs of choice. Especially hallucinogens. Which are ENTIRELY LEGAL here go away vigilantes.

Also he's really good at it so she'd get the highest grade 100% pure stuff.

I'm trying to take it easy until July rolls around though I do have the urge to tag into Renoir's Arrival just to add onto the list of Clair Obscur dudes that bled in front of Fio already, lmao.

I also just wanted to say I'm happy to see a mini E33 cast here! Fio was originally from a world of memories... of the digital sort. So that might be of some interest, but I don't know how it'll come up ICly. But she's been talking to Verso and will likely be talking to him more in the future! If they do cross paths, I'll let you know that I'm OK with spoilers even if I have very recently started Act III of the game. :)

Hello! I'm totally game for Fio tagging his arrival. I loved reading her thread with Verso and I'm curious as to what'll happen when she meets Renoir! Please name him Renny or something because it'll be hilarious.
