JUNE MISSION PLOTTING

⏵ transitional comforts ⏴

On the morning of June 7th, all characters will receive a delivery from the companion bots: one stuffed animal plushie handed directly to them. The shape of the plushie will differ between characters: it can be a bear, a turtle, a narwhal - any animal, mythical or otherwise, that you would like it to be! The only limitation is that it must be bigger than a character's fist, and small enough to be reasonably carried.

Instead of one widespread announcement sent out to characters, characters receive individual messages sent directly from Aurora into their inboxes.

To make it less difficult on the Mods' part, and to make it easier for players, we will be posting these announcements in this plotting post rather than in individual inboxes. Please feel free to decide which message your character receives.

Characters may receive one of two messages from Aurora:

Hello, citizens of Etraya.

I noticed a few of you searching for a calendar date among the papers in Kwik-Trip. Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

On June 7th, my companion bots will deliver an item to each of you. These items are often used as comfort items among one of our sister planets to lessen night terrors and aid in soothing intense negative emotions for those who struggle with them. They are not harmful when utilized correctly.

Your mission over the next couple of weeks is to keep your item safe. Protect it as if your lives depend on its continued existence.

I will not be answering questions concerning this mission.

Thank you,
Aurora

The plushies are magical in nature. Aurora's explanation about how they are meant to lessen night terrors and soothe intense emotions is not incorrect. Those who fall asleep with their plushies in the same room will find that they will not experience any nightmares and awaken feeling refreshed, even if they only sleep a few hours, or sleep in twenty-minute intervals (looking at you, Bats) rather than go for a full night's sleep. Those experiencing intense feelings of guilt, sorrow, homesickness, fear, or pain will find that they still feel those emotions, but with significantly less intensity than they may usually have. Stressors are less stressful, and overall, it seems like the plushies and their magical properties are trying to help. It's as if something else is helping to carry the weight of that suffering.

However, characters will also become more attached, and protective of their plushies, the longer they have them.

⏵ cute aggression ⏴

The other half of the game will receive the following announcement:

Hello, citizens of Etraya.

I noticed a few of you searching for a calendar date among the papers in Kwik-Trip. Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

On June 7th, my companion bots will deliver an item to each of you. These items are often used as comfort items among one of our sister planets to lessen night terrors and aid in soothing intense negative emotions to those who struggle with them. They are not harmful in small numbers but are meant to be disposed of within two weeks of their first use. Unfortunately, I lack the proper disposal bin for these. Destruction will suffice.

Your mission over the first week is to enjoy your plushie and the comforts it may give you. On June 14th, however, your mission parameters will shift to destroy as many plushies belonging to other competitors as possible. Any plushies remaining on Etraya after the 20th will cause massive amounts of destruction to our established city.

You cannot share this information with the city at large.

I will not be answering questions concerning this mission.

Thank you,
Aurora

Once a plushie is destroyed, all of those negative feelings that had been suppressed will return to characters. For those who only had their plushie for a week, they'll feel those emotions more intensely, but it won't be as terrible to lose it. The longer they have the plushie, the more emotions it absorbs, and the more backlash they'll receive when it's destroyed. Characters with intense night terrors may immediately fall asleep once the plushie is destroyed, throwing them into one of the worst night terrors they have experienced.

Characters cannot destroy their own plushies. Those who receive the message to destroy them are welcome to ask other people to destroy it for them, but if they attempt to explain their reasoning, they'll find themselves losing their train of thought or otherwise unable to explain Aurora's mission.

As stated in Aurora's second mission, any plushies that have not been destroyed by the 20th will become a problem all of it's own. The exception to this is if Wade Wilson dresses a plushie in the outfit he had received for it. This outfit will both lower the amount of emotions the plushie absorbs, and slow down its transformation.

⏵ cadaver consolations ⏴

And they do transform. Thirteen days of absorbing negative emotions, of taking on nightmares for others, and the plushies become something so much more than just plushies. Instead of being soft, huggable items meant to assist in lowering stressors, they take on aspects of those stressors. Perhaps your worst nightmare involves watching your loved ones burn to death - your plushie is no longer a cute little teddy bear but is instead the shape of what had once been your mother, burned and singed almost beyond recognition if it wasn't for her voice calling out to you, telling you that you did this to her as she chases you down. Perhaps you've been feeling guilty for how things went down in the Labyrinth, and the plushie takes on the shape of a friend who had fallen to save you, whispering into your ear about how it is your fault, you did this to them.

From the 20th through the 25th, these plushies remain corporeal. While they may not look soft and fluffy, it's possible to find threads hanging off of their bodies. Yanking on these threads will cause them to fall apart, thus destroying the nightmarish creature intent on following its owner to their death. After the twenty-fifth, they will no longer be corporeal and cannot be destroyed through traditional methods. Instead, player characters will need to pull aspects of their fear out of the mangled creature. Perhaps the creature is carrying a replica of a treasured necklace that needs to be yanked off it, or its chest has been torn open, its heart hanging loose for those around it to grab hold of. The character responsible for the plushie will need to devour their fears, which will cause the creature to unravel piece by piece.

How this looks is wholly up to you, as is how far your character's nightmarish creature gets. Whether it's devour in a literal sense, or if it's overcoming their fear - the extent of how messy this gets is up to each player, as is how messy their plushie gets.

⏵ NOTES ⏴

The soothing nature of the plushies is magical. They are magically charmed to absorb negative energies and contain them. Characters who can sense magic of this nature are free to notice this.

Those warded from being affected by others' magic may also find that their plushies are not effective for them. This can be played to players' preference; maybe the plushies can work around the wards, but maybe they cannot.

You can sign up to have a plushie assigned HERE if wanted! Or, you can choose your own. Please let us know if you would like our assistance in helping to create what it becomes after it transforms, too, if you intend on letting it get that far!

When you say it will slow the transformation if he puts on the outfit, will all the same outcomes happen to his plushie if it's still intact by end of plot? Or will it stagnate at some point in the process? Or perhaps just be less intense at the end?

closes my eyes

Mostly regarding that first week, what happens if a character keeps their plushie in another room entirely? Under the floor boards? Locked up? Etc.

helloooo for extra clarification: for characters who don't experience emotions normally (ie hannibal an actual psychopath lmf) would the effects be twice as bad, would destruction cause complete loss of impulse control and potentially lead to hannibal murdering or taking a bite out of someone if provoked when destroyed?

Just to make sure I've got the picture painted properly in my ol' dome: the plush owner and characters can try to fight the nightmare figure back, but won't be able to land any punches/attacks due to them not being tangible anymore, correct? The only thing tangible on them will be an item within/around that nightmare figure that the plush owner has to steal away and devour in whatever method?

Or will attacks seem to land, but the figure just reverts without issue?

I figure it's the first one, but better safe than sorry to assume!

Sam's plushie comes with knife. Would it become a real knife when the plushie transforms? If yes, would it be possible to grab the knife from it and/or keep the knife after the transformed plushie is vanquished or would the knife vanish with it?

I'm about to ask something so ridiculous, I'm sorry. Please blame Arrowverse. /o\

Barry's plushie is Beebo, who ended up turning into a bit of a problem in Arrowverse and needed to be taken out. (tl;dr He ended up becoming Godzilla-sized due to sorcery, I guess. He makes a few appearances, and I think magic is often why he is a nuisance to the superheroes.)

Could the magic impact Beebo similarly to how it does in canon, turning him from a regular plushie-sized toy into a gigantic sentient Godzilla-type plushie that could terrorise the city and need to be taken out by PCs later in the month? (Since he can be sentient and harass people, Beebo would be anti-destroying the plushies and want to take vengeance.)

Thanks!

What would happen if Cass went NOPE NO THANK YOU and yeeted her plushie out the window? Not to try and destroy it, but just to try and get it as far away from her as she can? Because SUSPICIOUS.

Just double checking before I run haywire with an idea, can the plushies come with a voice-box? A la a Build A Bear (from hell)? I am seeking nice pre-recorded messages from Clarke's deceased father gradually skewing into verbal torture.

Is it always kind of alive after a certain point when you bond with it like a 'Ted' situation or does it become more alive as time goes on/energy is absorbed? Or is that character based?

How realistic will the plushies be after they transform to embody a character's fears? For example, if the character's fears are embodied by someone's dead or mutilated body, will the plushie's nightmare form actually look convincingly like that person's body? Or will they still be plushie size/shaped/textured? Thanks!

Hello! When a plushie is destroyed and the negative emotions are returned to the character, does it only put the character to sleep/into a night terror? Or can they stay conscious and idk, Summon The Full Force Of The Elements in their sudden distress and rage?
