JUNE MISSION PLOTTING

⏵ transitional comforts ⏴

On the morning of June 7th, all characters will receive a delivery from the companion bots: one stuffed animal plushie handed directly to them. The shape of the plushie will differ between characters: it can be a bear, a turtle, a narwhal - any animal, mythical or otherwise, that you would like it to be! The only limitation is that it must be bigger than a character's fist, and small enough to be reasonably carried.

Instead of one widespread announcement sent out to characters, characters receive individual messages sent directly from Aurora into their inboxes.

To make it less difficult on the Mods' part, and to make it easier for players, we will be posting these announcements in this plotting post rather than in individual inboxes. Please feel free to decide which message your character receives.

Characters may receive one of two messages from Aurora:

Hello, citizens of Etraya.

I noticed a few of you searching for a calendar date among the papers in Kwik-Trip. Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

On June 7th, my companion bots will deliver an item to each of you. These items are often used as comfort items among one of our sister planets to lessen night terrors and aid in soothing intense negative emotions for those who struggle with them. They are not harmful when utilized correctly.

Your mission over the next couple of weeks is to keep your item safe. Protect it as if your lives depend on its continued existence.

I will not be answering questions concerning this mission.

Thank you,
Aurora

The plushies are magical in nature. Aurora's explanation about how they are meant to lessen night terrors and soothe intense emotions is not incorrect. Those who fall asleep with their plushies in the same room will find that they will not experience any nightmares and awaken feeling refreshed, even if they only sleep a few hours, or sleep in twenty-minute intervals (looking at you, Bats) rather than go for a full night's sleep. Those experiencing intense feelings of guilt, sorrow, homesickness, fear, or pain will find that they still feel those emotions, but with significantly less intensity than they may usually have. Stressors are less stressful, and overall, it seems like the plushies and their magical properties are trying to help. It's as if something else is helping to carry the weight of that suffering.

However, characters will also become more attached, and protective of their plushies, the longer they have them.

⏵ cute aggression ⏴

The other half of the game will receive the following announcement:

Hello, citizens of Etraya.

I noticed a few of you searching for a calendar date among the papers in Kwik-Trip. Today is June 3rd, of the year 40██.

On June 7th, my companion bots will deliver an item to each of you. These items are often used as comfort items among one of our sister planets to lessen night terrors and aid in soothing intense negative emotions to those who struggle with them. They are not harmful in small numbers but are meant to be disposed of within two weeks of their first use. Unfortunately, I lack the proper disposal bin for these. Destruction will suffice.

Your mission over the first week is to enjoy your plushie and the comforts it may give you. On June 14th, however, your mission parameters will shift to destroy as many plushies belonging to other competitors as possible. Any plushies remaining on Etraya after the 20th will cause massive amounts of destruction to our established city.

You cannot share this information with the city at large.

I will not be answering questions concerning this mission.

Thank you,
Aurora

Once a plushie is destroyed, all of those negative feelings that had been suppressed will return to characters. For those who only had their plushie for a week, they'll feel those emotions more intensely, but it won't be as terrible to lose it. The longer they have the plushie, the more emotions it absorbs, and the more backlash they'll receive when it's destroyed. Characters with intense night terrors may immediately fall asleep once the plushie is destroyed, throwing them into one of the worst night terrors they have experienced.

Characters cannot destroy their own plushies. Those who receive the message to destroy them are welcome to ask other people to destroy it for them, but if they attempt to explain their reasoning, they'll find themselves losing their train of thought or otherwise unable to explain Aurora's mission.

As stated in Aurora's second mission, any plushies that have not been destroyed by the 20th will become a problem all of it's own. The exception to this is if Wade Wilson dresses a plushie in the outfit he had received for it. This outfit will both lower the amount of emotions the plushie absorbs, and slow down its transformation.

⏵ cadaver consolations ⏴

And they do transform. Thirteen days of absorbing negative emotions, of taking on nightmares for others, and the plushies become something so much more than just plushies. Instead of being soft, huggable items meant to assist in lowering stressors, they take on aspects of those stressors. Perhaps your worst nightmare involves watching your loved ones burn to death - your plushie is no longer a cute little teddy bear but is instead the shape of what had once been your mother, burned and singed almost beyond recognition if it wasn't for her voice calling out to you, telling you that you did this to her as she chases you down. Perhaps you've been feeling guilty for how things went down in the Labyrinth, and the plushie takes on the shape of a friend who had fallen to save you, whispering into your ear about how it is your fault, you did this to them.

From the 20th through the 25th, these plushies remain corporeal. While they may not look soft and fluffy, it's possible to find threads hanging off of their bodies. Yanking on these threads will cause them to fall apart, thus destroying the nightmarish creature intent on following its owner to their death. After the twenty-fifth, they will no longer be corporeal and cannot be destroyed through traditional methods. Instead, player characters will need to pull aspects of their fear out of the mangled creature. Perhaps the creature is carrying a replica of a treasured necklace that needs to be yanked off it, or its chest has been torn open, its heart hanging loose for those around it to grab hold of. The character responsible for the plushie will need to devour their fears, which will cause the creature to unravel piece by piece.

How this looks is wholly up to you, as is how far your character's nightmarish creature gets. Whether it's devour in a literal sense, or if it's overcoming their fear - the extent of how messy this gets is up to each player, as is how messy their plushie gets.

⏵ NOTES ⏴

The soothing nature of the plushies is magical. They are magically charmed to absorb negative energies and contain them. Characters who can sense magic of this nature are free to notice this.

Those warded from being affected by others' magic may also find that their plushies are not effective for them. This can be played to players' preference; maybe the plushies can work around the wards, but maybe they cannot.

You can sign up to have a plushie assigned HERE if wanted! Or, you can choose your own. Please let us know if you would like our assistance in helping to create what it becomes after it transforms, too, if you intend on letting it get that far!

PLAYER: Emm

CHARACTER: Shadowheart
CR GOALS: I'm thinking she'll be on Team Protect, even though she'll be immediately Extremely Suspicious of the thing and stick it in a drawer somewhere, at least until those protective feelings kick in, at which point she'll absolutely fight anybody who tries to take it away from her. The ensuing breakdown when it gets destroyed? Bad, probably. She might even need a hug or something.
PLUSHIE: an owlbear that'll eventually transform into a manifestation of eternal darkness that swallows all light and hope

CHARACTER: Mizu
CR GOALS: Team Destroy! Mizu won't even bother trying to explain, she'll just walk up to plushies and start slicing and dicing unless she stares into its lovable soft little furry face for too long She's extremely good at bottling up her feelings, but when her plushie gets destroyed and those feelings hit her really hard all at once, she might... start crying? And she'll be very angry and prone to arboreal violence about that (apologies to the trees, those grow back right?)
PLUSHIE: this adorable sparrow that definitely won't remind her of the innocent blood on her hands or anything

CHARACTER: Victoria Dallon
CR GOALS: Someone please kill her plushie with fire. Also probably comfort her afterwards? Because oh boy she will hate this with the power of a thousand suns.
PLUSHIE: What does the "Garden of flesh" brings to you mind? It's worse than that. IT WILL NOT BE ADORABLE.

Daisy Johnson | MCU

[personal profile] morethan084 2024-06-03 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER: Andrea
CHARACTER: Daisy Johnson

CR GOALS: Daisy will be on team ‘protect the plushie at all cost’. Having just lost Joric, she’ll find comfort in her stuffed animal. Her bond to it will continue to grow over the weeks, resulting in over protectiveness towards it. If anyone wants to deal with negative CR, I’d love to have Daisy lash out on others. Whether it’s physically fighting someone, or using her powers is up to whoever tries to, or succeeds in destroying her stuffed animal.

PLUSHIE: This stuff bear looks exactly like the one Joric had given to her almost a year ago.

Tara Carpenter | Scream

CHARACTER: Tara Carpenter
CR GOALS: Gush at plushies together? And try to hide plushies when the Plushieggedon begins.
PLUSHIE: This cutie that she should hate by all rights but just looks at it.

If you don't mind MHA spoilers... All aboard the trauma train! Will Accelerator still be trying to protect the plushie in Sister form? Deku is Team Protect, but if he sees someone being chased by danger, he will try to save them. Additional optional awfulness: I'm down for Accelerator mistaking that for trying to attack the transformed plushie. Deku is a heavy hitter and can hold his own or get out of dodge as needed.

CHARACTER: Dick Grayson
CR GOALS: He will be on team search and destroy. This will most likely not come natural for him in any way.
PLUSHIE: Dick will receive a red fox plush with absolutely no clue why.

Natasha Romanoff | MCU

[personal profile] blackhourglass 2024-06-03 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
CHARACTER: Natasha Romanoff
CR GOALS: She will be on team protect and will be happy to help others protect their plushies from being destroyed as well, because destroying stuffed animals is wrong!
PLUSHIE: Her stuffie will be a squishy pig in honor of her fake mother and how they worked together to take down the Red Room for good.
fourthwalled: (Default)

Wade Wilson | Marvel Cinematic Universe

[personal profile] fourthwalled 2024-06-03 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
PLAYER: Mari
CHARACTER: Wade Wilson/Deadpool
CR GOALS: DP will be protecting his unicorn plushie at all costs and will try and stab you if you try to harm a hair on it's head or the fluff in its butt. You've been warned. I want ridiculous battles to save his beloved plushie that will be dressed in the Deadpool uniform that he earned from the city. The fabric of the outfit will make it very hard to destroy too, so we can get real wild with it! Wade will be protecting this unicorn with all his might, especially because it will help him sleep. He usually has night terrors every night to begin with, so even the slightest easing of that will be a godsend for him. Because the transformation will be slowed, he'll know well in advance that the same will happen for his, but the relaxation/calm it gives him will make him not care. It may even make him less unstable that he is usually.

After a few days of this, I also think I might pull in a little Spider-man/Deadpool comic canon to say that having his soul a little healed and hating himself less will dissolve his scars. So he'll be his normal hot Ryan Reynolds self for a while. Because the magic plushie will be taking that pain. Yay, magic!

Eventually, the plushie will start to change and Wade will slowly start to shift back, hair thinning, scars showing here and there, as that self-loathing returns from the taunting as the plushie takes on the shape of Vanessa, chiding him for her death and his failures. He won't be able to bring himself to kill the plushie because of who it looks like... and because he feels like he deserves that punishment, and because then he selfishly knows all those scars will return too right way the moment it is destroyed.

It will culminate with him finally swallowing back his fears/traumas, although the plushie will never reach non-corporeal with the slowed effects. So Sam Carpenter will be helping to finally convince him to let her go, destroy it, and take it all back and his scars, I'm here for that tear/emotion fest.

But I'm up for all sort of other meeting during this plot! Hit me up with your ideas!

Ohhh I hadn't thought about Accelerator still trying to protect the plush even as she's trying to kill him, that could be really fun! I'm down for additional awfulness as well. Deku retreating would probably the best outcome, otherwise Accy would injure/knock him out (possibly dump him in front of the hospital for the companion bots if it's bad enough, he wouldn't be looking to kill or anything).

You have your choice of Dick or Nat or both ~ Nat will be letting her plush absorb all that lovely negative energy that she has, and Dick will be out destroying plushies because I hate him. :)

Sam's plushie comes with knife. Would it become a real knife when the plushie transforms? If yes, would it be possible to grab the knife from it and/or keep the knife after the transformed plushie is vanquished or would the knife vanish with it?

Nat will also be holding onto their plushies. It would be bad if they were to run into one another near the end, y/y? If you wish to write something together again. That's totally up to you and open for discussion.

Nat will be saving her plushie too, but it would still be a great time for them to run into one another, middle or ending. Cute or batshit, either way would be fun.

Omgosh. Beebo. That part of the show made me laugh so damn hard. Dick is destroying plushies. It would be terrible if they run across one another this way. I mean technically they are from the same universe-ish, even if Dick only knows of him and doesn't know him. There are show references to the Arrowverse world.
equivo: (pic#17106153)

Francis Krouse | Worm

[personal profile] equivo 2024-06-04 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
PLAYER: Beth
CHARACTER: Francis Krouse
CR GOALS: Krouse will be on Team Protect, and therefore will be taking his plushie with him everywhere, mostly hidden in a hoodie pocket. He'll wind up intensely attached to and protective of his plushie, even after it transforms into a The Thing-esque ball of appendages, eyes, and mouths. He won't fight people over it unless he has to, preferring to use his teleportation to get himself and his tiny responsibility out of harm's way.

Early on, he'll be experiencing all the benefits of 'actually getting restful sleep' and 'a reduction in the amount of constant crushing stress', meaning it'll be a good interval for some lighter kinds of threads. I'm also up for playing out a couple of evasion efforts if people want to try to take the plushie from him, which will probably be on the shorter side due to him being pretty good at getting out of Dodge.

After his plushie deteriorates, it'll start trying to take chunks out of him. It's disproportionately strong, persistent, and extremely hungry, so managing it will get a little bit more challenging. He'll stay determined to protect and fix it up to the point of seeking some professional help from a local psychiatrist, at which point it'll be destroyed. I'm up for people 1. seeing him be extremely gentle with the tiny horror 2. trying to get through to him about it and 3. perhaps doing some additional aftermath threads where he might even talk about what the hell all of that was about.

PLUSHIE: A sparrow slightly larger than Krouse's fist.
projected: (like a brick)

[personal profile] projected 2024-06-04 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
PLAYER: Marion
CHARACTER: Eobard Thawne
CR GOALS: he's going to be on team destroy the bear because how can I resist? if you want him to rip up your teddy, he has speedster powers and can make fast work of it. or he can taunt whoever he takes it from for a little while too.

however he's going to need help getting his own bear destroyed. the issue is this: eobard's power thrives on his negative emotions. so having a wave of backlash coming at him at once could end with him temporarily losing control. if you want to have a brief fight with a speedster, let me know if you'd like to help destroy it!
PLUSHIE: his is... well... it's going to be a bear dressed as the flash.
projected: (rattles cage)

because i want these two psychopaths of different flavors to interact, how would you feel about hannibal destroying thawne's bear? he's also on team destroy but will need to get rid of his.
