JULY MISSION PLOTTING

❬ THE HERO EQUATION ❭

Everyone is given the same story when they arrive to Etraya: they are here to prove their world is worth saving.

This isn't a straight prove your worth, but given as a competition of sorts: there are many worlds, and only some of them will be saved once Echo has chosen which worlds truly are worth saving, and which aren't. Many may assume they are competing against some, but alongside others. There are numerous individuals from Runeterra, many from an Earth with a Gotham with a certain individual wearing the moniker Superman - or perhaps their Superman is different. Others may have arrived here without any recognizable companions, but among others from the same planet they have come from. Perhaps there are faces you know, but they aren't quite the same: timelines don't match up, histories don't, something is off about them. Some may have further information from Aurora regarding this: serial numbers of planets, of worlds, all nicely labeled in a system that is no longer accessible. But how does one truly know who among them is an enemy or an ally? How do you know working alongside someone truly benefits your world? Perhaps you are aiding someone whose world is similar enough, but not the same. Perhaps a child who is much older, or younger, isn't the child you know at all, but a close copy. Someone whose world is different just enough to count separately. Perhaps you are all fighting for the same world. A multiverse connected together with intricate threads, ones that cannot be untangled from another, all gathered together under the same file as far as Echo is concerned. Perhaps none of you are fighting for the same thing at all, but all warring against one another. What if only one world from Etraya is saveable? What if they all will be, depending on their performance? For those who refuse to believe anything told by those from this world: perhaps you were correct all along, and the tale told by Aurora is only a distraction meant to take your attention away from something else entirely. How can you truly know, when it appears that Aurora also doesn't have that information? What source will you believe: your own instincts, or others?

❬ HIDDEN AGENDA ❭

On the morning of July 11th, Aurora makes her announcement: Etrayans are to travel to a planet called Earth, with a specific goal to accomplish during their time planet-side. A cosmic anomaly is warping the moral compasses of Earth's residences. Those who were known for their great deeds and heroic feats are turning authoritarian, or possibly downright evil. On the opposite end, the attitudes of criminals is also... shifting. Some have gone from merciless killing machines to self-sacrificial heroes, pushing themselves to the battlefront in order to protect those weaker than them. The thing is? No one truly knows why this is happening. Some whose moral alignments are more pragmatic don't seem to be effected by the change, but have noticed it happening around them. School bullies are becoming teachers pets. Teachers pets are becoming merciless bullies. Something is truly wrong here, and no one knows how to fix it. Many may recognize the planet: Earth, in the year 2025, with all the normal amenities that may be found in the current day. However, there aren't just the expected ordinary human beings traveling the planet. Caped crusaders, vigilantes, and beings from other planets wander the streets freely. Superhuman capabilities aren't necessarily common, but it seems that a good 10-15% of those residing on Earth have some sort of extraordinary ability. Some use it to benefit the world, going by names such as Sublime and flying around the planet at superhuman speeds to save ships from odd creatures that have resurfaced in the ocean determined to take out anything that disturbs it's peace. Some use it to benefit themselves, using their ability to become incorporeal to pickpocket others, steal from banks, and enrich themselves and those around them by robbing others of their hard-earned funds. Upon arriving planet-side on July 18th, each Etrayan is assigned two additional identities: their heroic alter-ego, as well as a common name to blend in with the crowd. Think Superman and Clark Kent. In addition to their names, they will find that their arrival on this Earth may have granted them new capabilities - perhaps someone without abilities is now able to fly, or someone who came to Etraya with their own set of extraordinary abilities now has something new to help with. Their newly given identities align with these newfound abilities, if they have them. For those who arrive just as they were - well. There are plenty of heroes without extra capabilities that manage in the field just fine, they can figure it out. Maybe they are the eyes in the sky, leaders that direct heroes through communicators, or someone who inherited more money than they could ever truly use in a lifetime that they can redirect to building fun new toys. Their goal? To search this world for the cosmic anomaly, and "fix" it. Aurora doesn't have further details, nor can she provide any helpful clues as to what it may look like. This is up to them, the citizens of Etraya, to discern. The world is a big place, and there's countless places such a thing could hide, especially given they're not sure what, exactly, they're looking for. Worse still: they're on a time crunch. This mission will end on August 15th, giving them four weeks to find it and get out. If it's found and resolved earlier, all the better! It gives them time to repair some of the damage done.

❬ MORALITY SHIFT ❭

While Etrayans are being sent to this Earth to find and fix the issue that is causing difficulties with this Earth's population, they'll find that some of them are also affected. Players are welcome to decide that their characters have suddenly had a morality shift of their own - perhaps those who are more inclined to criminal activity suddenly find themselves wanting to do good, or vice versa. This is fully optional, and any effects would clear up upon their return to Etraya. This would also hit them significantly less hard than it does those who are native to this world! Please keep this in mind when playing with it. The changes would get more significant over time, meaning it would start very subtly. Some characters will find themselves arriving in San Francisco. This city has become a kind of hub for heroes working outside of the United States. There is a massive building off the coastline known as the League of Heroes. This is run by a superhero known as Sublime. His backstory as an alien from a far away planet who arrived here as a young child and was raised by caring parents is well-known. Sorry, Superman, we're borrowing from you a little. On the flip side, others will be arriving in Palo Alto where there is a large hub of villains. They have their own headquarters, a building that looks like an average office space called Veil and Venture, but once one gets off the lobby floor, it becomes clear it's anything but. This place is run by a woman named Lynn Reed, better known as Manifesto. Mods can assign identities here if you'd like, or players can choose their own. This includes their starting locations, and whether they're hero-coded or villain-coded. Characters who are under sixteen will need to reside with a guardian. Those between sixteen and eighteen may be given one if Aurora feels as if they require someone to look out for them. We'll be leaving this up to players! For those with a guardian: Aurora will be giving legal custody of them to another player character - this can be chosen by the players. Additionally characters can be housed together in roommate situations, or assigned as "siblings", they may be given civilian identities that are married to one another, etc. Please feel free to make up little family units that feel most fun to you! If you ask the mods to assign identities, please let us know if you'd like your character to get their own little family unit or not. We will be providing a world-ending event for characters to confront on the mission log, but characters are welcome to use their newfound abilities and status as heroes to stop bank robberies, save kidnapped victims, stop the Puzzler by solving his puzzles, or confront villains or heroes-turned-villains in whatever capacity you'd like! Please consider this more of a free for all where there is plenty of space to play in and countless things for characters to get up to. Damage done to this Earth does not need to be checked by the mods, as long as they're outside of San Francisco and Palo Alto, given those are the main locations we'll be focusing on for this mission.

❬ MISSION NOTES ❭

📌 — This Earth heavily resembles current-day Earth. All cities will be what we would find on the map of our Earth - meaning, there is no Gotham, or any fictional cities in play. Players are free to create their own locations within locations! We won't be monitoring this closely, and want to give players free reign to play with the environment around them as they would like. 📌 — You may notice that this plotting post includes a lot of overview of the mission, but not the gritty details. We want to note that this is wholly intentional! We're looking to see what you, our players, are most interested in interacting with. This will help us build the log to suit your interests. If you have any questions or want to offer some suggestions, please feel free to do so under mission suggestions. We also have our mission queries header for any questions you may have! 📌 — Powers gained on this new Earth will be available to be regained through activity points after characters are back on Etraya. They will cost 30 points.

backtostart: looking down and away (so I guess I'm in the way huh?)

Player: Lila
Contact Info: DivineShark on Plurk and Discord, PMs also okay!
Limits: Threading out burning or explosions. (Not threaded out is okay!)

Character Name: Setsu
Status / Alter Ego:
Setsu's heroic alter ego is called "Cyan Star" (unless I think of another name I like more), and their newfound ability is regeneration - of the "blood flows back into the body and wounds close themselves" variety. Their other, common identity will be known as "Seth [LastNameHere]," a recent high school graduate with a habit of nosing into things that they shouldn't.

Wanted CR:
Setsu is new, so I'm open to just about anything for them! If you toss your character at me, we will find a plot that works!

Some particular wants:
- Characters who also want to protect/save others — and related, characters that can actually provide medical care as Setsu cannot
- Characters who are also gathering information or investigating and may want to join them or run into them
- Friends, buddies, people that force them to relax
- More pragmatically-minded people to work with them
- Also offering Setsu up to be fought, injured, or possibly killed in some way

Mission Plans:
Although Setsu is hero-coded, they wouldn't find themself inclined to align themself with either side, especially given the morality shifts going on. They don't implicitly trust anyone, but they're also willing to work towards a common goal with anyone. They aren't the type to withhold information if sharing it will help with the mission itself. So, everyone can work with them! They'll also be mildly suspicious of everyone at the same time.

Their main goal here is gather information to attempt to uncover the anomaly, but they won't be able to ignore people in who are in danger, and will do what they can to help both NPCs and PCs.

(They also won't be experiencing a morality shift since they're so new. But don't worry, they'll be paranoid about the possibility of it. :') )

Hello hello :)

Given Setsu's interactions with Verso this could be interesting CR? Even just to start it and see what happens.

Anyway! Renoir is information gathering and is remaining pragmatic for this event. I finished plotting if there's anything that takes your fancy.

There's ideas I can toss your way. But first how good are you with Clair Obscur spoilers?
backtostart: smiling brightly (this is starting to get sort of fun)

Hello!

Yes, I am totally up for CR with Renoir! I'm canonblind, but spoilers are totally fine because I'm too broke to play the game anytime soon. Feel free to toss any ideas at me!

Looking at your plotting post, Setsu is also focused on completing the mission, and they're the type that accomplishing their objective takes precedent over everything else, so if they worked together, I'd be up for Setsu noticing the effect of the anomaly on him.

Sounds good!

Is Setsu given to protecting everyone or only those they care about? Renoir is the latter - and the anomaly will be amplifying that. Setsu could start noticing changes while they're working together.

Should they mention Verso that would easily get his attention. Renoir (regardless of Verso being mentioned but especially so after) could be willing to share information at first and over time he starts holding it back?
backtostart: smiling (together with you)

[personal profile] backtostart 2025-07-12 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Setsu is more of the type to protect everyone, and they'll actually want to help the people of this world. I look forward to seeing how things go between them with the anomaly starts to take effect!

If there's a reason to mention Verso, Setsu absolutely would; he's one of their only friends here, and they like him a lot. ;; But I think that plot progression sounds good for them! For Setsu, things becoming more one-sided would raise suspicion.

[personal profile] betenoir 2025-07-12 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, then that will be some lovely idealogical conflict! Not necessarily as negative CR but in the vein of psychologically exploring it, if that makes sense? If things end up heading that way between them. I'm game for seeing how things flow naturally.

And yes! I can talk about Verso more but that's spoilers. Suspicious Setsu is going to be interesting to thread with too. Mind if I add you on Plurk?

[personal profile] backtostart 2025-07-12 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, absolutely! I love that kind of CR. It always makes for some good tension and development. We'll see how things go, but I'm totally up for it!

Sure, you're welcome to add me! Happy to hear about Verso spoilers, too. Suspicious Setsu is also incredibly direct about their doubts, so!

opens arms for later month issues on Alex's end where she's starting to get too callous and needs to be jolted into action to protect a grandma :(

she's all on board to work toward the anomaly solving, and it'll be slow creep for her with morality shift, mostly showing as being the aforementioned more callous to what she uh

look she lets a woman of grandma like age shank her in the back because she just. has to defend the grandmas. even when it's stupid. so!
backtostart: leaning against a wall (Default)

[personal profile] backtostart 2025-07-16 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO ALEX... it's important to respect your elders, including their right to shank you...!

But yes I am up for that! The two of them can work together with figuring out the anomaly, and then Setsu can try to get Alex back to herself! ;o; For protecting people!! Since it's a slow shift, maybe sometime early on, Alex can show that she usually cares, so Setsu doesn't think she's just kinda a dick.
reincarnesiac: (yep we're a-okay over here)

[personal profile] reincarnesiac 2025-07-16 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah we can have actually saving people from damage or injury or just helping even in the walk old folks across roads when there's impatient drivers, we can make it pretty obvious that while Alex can be a dick, this is not her usual sort of dick

[personal profile] backtostart 2025-07-16 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
that sounds good!! Some nice normal cooperation to make her descent more obvious! Setsu will worry about her. '^' Gotta snap their friend back to her senses!
reincarnesiac: (smile and be easy)

[personal profile] reincarnesiac 2025-07-16 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
she will, thankfully, be snappable, because even with moral slippage, friends are important and it might tip toward the possessively important so she Has to listen

bonding!!!

[personal profile] backtostart 2025-07-16 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
the power of friendship actually works... setsu will be so moved...! they don't know what possessively important means BUT!!
