MAY MISSION PLOTTING

⏵ CAMP ETRAYA ⏴

On the morning of May 9th, Aurora makes her mission announcement: her and the companion bots are working on setting up space in Ochreward, far from the trolley path, for CAMP ETRAYA.

Nestled away from everything else in a large clearing full of wildflowers and redwoods, Camp Etraya is a nostalgic summer camp experience put together just for it's residents! Expect cabins with assigned housing, scary stories around campfires, gossiping among friends on the trails surrounding the cabins - but don't be surprised when something goes awry. After all, this is still Etraya.

While the rest of Etraya is still accessible and will not be blocked off, characters are discouraged from venturing too far from camp for too long: Aurora will specify that they are on a mission, and that missions do require participation, but she has intentionally left them the freedom to wander. Not sleeping in their cabins, not participating in events, and staying away from Camp Etraya will end with her having to take more extensive security measures, so please be on your best behavior! The last thing she wants to do is start enforcing boundaries, but she will if she has to.

On an OOC level, if your character refuses to participate and stick around, please let us know! Enough participants wandering off and refusing to do camp activities with everyone else will end in Aurora needing to upgrade her security and the companion bots will begin to enforce the rules.

As for camp itself: it's set up much like your generic summer camp! Each cabin is named, housing is assigned to characters as they arrive, there are camp counselor roles that will be given out at random (to those who register here for a counselor role) and rotating daily tasks and chores. There will also be multiple activities that characters will be expected to participate in, and each activity is worth a certain amount of points that goes toward their camp graduation score. This score will be visible on their earpiece, and follows the A-F grading system. We will not be monitoring this, but will leave character scores up to players. We do, however, ask that you please report your characters' camp grade HERE for rewards and demerits to be handed out after the mission itself.

Please note that this comment will be updated on May 14th showing your character's assigned cabin as well as their role, and chores that will be assigned to that cabin. Those who are participating in Solmara will receive an assigned cabin, too, but we will be spreading these characters out enough that their absence toward the beginning will not harm the cabin's ability to compete.

⏵ CAMP ACTIVITIES ⏴

As with most summer camps, Camp Etraya offers a wide variety of activities to participate in. While some of these activities may be mandatory, others are optional. We'll be leaving this up to individual player discretion: perhaps Vander is mandated to report to arts and crafts, whilst it's optional for Silco to show. Silco, on the other hand, may be mandated to report to the archery contest. Characters are encouraged to participate in a minimum of one camp activity per day. This can be handwaved or played out - whatever works best for you!

Below is a non-exhaustive list of camp activities. Please feel free to come up with your own; if you'd like, you can suggest them for the mission log here.

  • Three-Legged Race - You and a partner are tied together at your ankles, and you must race others to the finish line. Those with abilities that would give them an advantage will find that the rope that ties them together hinders those abilities from functioning.
  • Archery - This can be more traditional, magical, or include moving targets! If you're particularly unlucky, your target may even shoot back.
  • Obstacle Course - You are directed into a large maze with multiple obstacles for them to overcome, such as rock climbing walls,
  • Capture the Flag - Small teams are put together in order to take the flag from a particular bot, whose entire goal is to avoid being caught.
  • Canoe Race - Canoes are placed into the rivers just off of the camp, and characters must race to the finish line.
  • Arts and Crafts - Make friendship bracelets, paint rocks, learn origami! Or perhaps you're tasked with putting together an enchanted necklace. Don't know how to do enchantments? Now is as good of a time as any to learn.
  • Campfire stories - Share scary stories amongst yourselves around the campfire late into the night. If you're particularly unlucky, you may just hear the thing you were just warning others about..

⏵ SOLMARA SIDEQUEST ⏴

Now, part of Aurora's announcement wasn't just about Camp Etraya. The quest to infiltrate Solmara and save Borealis, her brother, will be occurring at the same time. Individuals can volunteer to go to Solmara. To make this more manageable for us mods, we're going to limit the amount traveling to Solmara to fifteen characters. To this end, we are asking that players only volunteer one of their characters.

On the morning of May 16th, while the rest of Etraya is making their way up to camp, Aurora will open up a portal beside the hospital that will take player characters to Solmara. While there, their earpieces will work but they will only connect to others who are present in Solmara.

Unlike Etraya, Solmara is grim and desolate. A city built in a very desert-like environment, there isn't a significant amount of life found towards the outskirts. For an image reference of what it looks like, please refer to Ashlee's map that Max drew up! Characters will be dropped off by the small forested area full of barren trees. Where there are skulls on the map are where dangerous wildlife roam - the more dangerous they are, the more skulls Max has added. While there is a large body of water, it is not drinkable as the filtration system that keeps the water safe has long-since been turned off.

The hospital is within the gated community that Alrys has set up, and the hospital, much like Aurora's own, is where Borealis resides. Aurora cannot provide details of where exactly his body is located given her own programming restraints, nor can she provide any helpful information aside from acknowledging that Borealis' system must be similar to her own.

This does mean that characters are going to have to rely on the information others have already gathered on Aurora, and will have to rely on those who had previously been within Solmara to know their way around, as Aurora does not have any helpful information she can provide.

She will give everyone a backpack with basic survival items, as well as any specialty items they may require. The portal will stay open, but it can only pass enough matter through it to return those who had originally gone through. What this means is that those who pass through the portal to Solmara are the only ones who can return through it, and it only has enough energy for those fifteen. If anyone else tries to come through from Etraya's side, it will mean that two will need to stay behind. Current Solmarans will not be able to see the portal, so guarding it from the Solmaran side is not necessary.

⏵ NOTES ⏴

Welcome to Camp Etraya! Please enjoy the s'mores and campfire songs. :)

Camp will last approximately two weeks, going from May 16th to May 30th.

There will be two logs: one for Camp Etraya, and one for Solmara's infiltration.

Solmara's infiltration will likely require a significant amount of responses from the mods to push forward the plot as it's happening there. We will be doing our best to get back to responses ASAP to help threads along, and will be asking for players to please put @mods in the subject lines of the responses you'd like for us to be responding to. We will be responding to these as quickly as possible to keep threads moving.

The infiltration will take as long as is necessary for player characters to make their way through Solmara, and save Borealis, or - well, whatever they decide to do before going back through the portal! We understand that this can be easier to plot out through OOC discussions and then be brought into thread when able. To that extent, please note we will be utilizing our Solmara Plotting Post once more for this purpose.

Given it's difficult to plot when unsure of which group your character will be in, we're going to announce who is going to Solmara by Monday, May 12th, by editing this comment with those chosen.

We do ask that anyone who signs up to visit Solmara please do so with the understanding that this may require you/your character to be more active for at least the first week after the mission goes up! We understand we're a game with no minimum activity requirements, but given the limited amount of slots offered for Solmara, we'd like to ensure the slots offered are going to those who will be active participants.

Yeah it's kinda cheating when the guy is built to be exactly what Barnabas needs, but Barnabas fails to see the problem? Sometimes little magical horsetwinks are just perfect, okok.

But LMAO yeah no that is entirely fair, don't listen to Barnabas for a lot of what he says, because even if he does say some valid things, that doesn't outweigh the harsh things he says. Though, I do think it will be an interesting chance for Barnabas to see Dion in action, so to speak. Surethey have been on the battlefield, and h's had his spies and what not, but it isn't like he's seen Dion in such a humanizing light before.

re: the old me tho, it's a lot easier for it to stay even when they're not being haunted by a shitty megalomaniacal ghost.

Barnabas' favoritism will never not amuse me. His oh so very special and perfect horsetwink who can do absolutely no wrong while he causes problems on purpose... Because Barnabas supports him of course.

True, never before has he gotten a good look at Dion in such a mundane setting doing such mundane things which will somehow supposedly go toward saving their world. Dion's got a small squad of people who want to learn to launch like rockets and he will do his best to responsibly ensure everyone succeeds in general, so there will be things for Barnabas to see and/or squint at.

Thank goodness they don't have that to contend with. Dion would try to blow up that fish-eyed thing again if ever.

Wow my phone was unkind to me with those typos. The peril of phone replies.

Barnabas only treats Sleipnir with the most logical and correct judgment, there's no bias, one simply must love The Horse™

Dion with his own little band of new dragoons is such a cute image tbh. Barnabas watching this happen with judgmental scrutiny and maybe a small bit of respect for Dion's leadership skills.

Hey, leave Barnabas' doomsday god alone, he may look like a corpse and be entirely fucked up, but that's HIS god ok!

Typos what typos, we do not perceive.

Sure, sure, no bias whatsoever. Definitely not holding the prize pony to different standards than everyone else, nope.

Right? I hadn't thought about it but him getting to teach people would be cute. Probably good for him too. Gosh Barnabas respecting his leadership skills... Dion will likely never know but aww.

Get a new god Barnabas, there's a whole multiverse! Trade in that god for one that'll actually appreciate devotion.

Barnabas is a being of pure reason, no feelings behind anything he does, especially not when it concerns his BELOVED horse!

Yeah it sure sucks that Barnabas is less inclined to speak praise than he is criticism unless he's given reason to, but there's a chance. Small though it is that maybe Dion could learn of it. Probably not from Barnabas himself, though.

Um but they won't be a mommy assigned divinity and we know that just doesn't work for him 😔

All those statues and that flag are the marks of a man who knows absolutely no emotional bias whatsoever.

Perhaps one day... Imagine getting validation from your rival even indirectly. Dion would assuredly also never mention it to Barnabas, was that something he actually even said it seems surreal.

Time to grow up and choose your own deity, Barnabas. Make mommy proud (maybe not but)...
